History: The Denovans original home system was home to a number of spacefaring races each living in a constant tension over the system's limited resources. The Dirnish Emirate held the peace with their military might until the death of their king caused a civil war between his two sons, with their power gone the various powers in the system began fighting to fill in the void of power. For three centuries battles raged, planets were bombarded and when the dust settled all that was left was a ruined system. In desperation the people of Denova excavated their home planet to construct a massive fleet of ships to flee for a new home away from the ravaged system that used to be theirs. Their travels lasted many long years with numerous attacks and raids by pirates, slavers, and even indigenous peoples of the various systems and planets they encountered along the way. Their only hope of survival was the Admiralty board, a group of five Admirals who commanded the Denovan Navy and the refugees of Denova, over the course of several decades the Denovans gained a firm grasp of the concepts of Naval warfare, beginning their strong Naval tradition. They eventually found a new homeworld far from their old home and began to rebuild. Their massive colony ships were deconstructed to make way for building new structures and homes on their new planet while the Denovan Navy took to protecting their home with renewed vigor, driving off pirates and curious neighbors while they rebuilt.
By the time they had begun to reform a grounded society, the Admiralty had all but secured total control of the populace with little to no civilian resistance, the Admiralty had defended and led the Denovans for so long that they were held in high esteem by the people and military service became the basis for achieving anything in society, merit was the mark by which men and women gained ranks and prestige in Denovan society. With this unifying ideology came isolation, the people of Denova held little trust for other species and peoples, content to trade but declaring that no non-Denovan was allowed on New Denova or any of their worlds.
Culture: The Denovans are prideful of their military tradition, especially their naval tradition. The DRF, Denovan Response Fleet, is the main arm of the Denovan Navy and it's pride and traditions hold the people together, the fleet patrols the worlds of the Denovans with pride and great discipline to ward off pirates or curious outsiders, yet the people of Denova and the Admiralty do not attack unless attacked first. Wholly uninterested in the affairs of the outside civilizations unless said affairs directly affect them. They are polite as need be but otherwise taciturn in their dealings with outsiders. Duty is everything and rebels are not tolerated, this has resulted in a species unified under a common goal to stand against the threats the galaxy has to offer.
The people of Denova pride themselves on their shipcraft, the army is considered a prestigious career but the real power, prestige and pride are in the Navy, the Admiralty are all naval commanders as well as many leaders in more civilian roles are often former naval commanders and as such pride is placed in fielding great navies, commanding ships and the discipline within.
