The Destroyer Arno drifted through space as the ship neared it's destination, the Retaran Empire was said to dwell in the southernmost systems of the known galaxy and the Admiralty had sent Rear Admiral Olesya Cherkasova to negotiate the potential for trade with the Retarans, the Admiralty was looking for more cash to deal with the ever increasing budget demands from sectors both civil and military as well as to blunt the RWU in the west, with the upcoming elections in Asteron, the Admiralty was waiting to see if PUF took control and whether that would mean abandoning their relationship with Asteron.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes, turning her attention to the bridge, democracy at it's finest, a new party in control, one that would only support the RWU's aggressive policies and threaten Denova's peace. With any luck though the PUF would lose and things would go back to normal but in the mean time Olesya had her own mission to complete.
Her destination was close, or at least according to the sensors they were, giving a nod to an ensign she opened the comm system.
"Attention Retaran officials, this is Rear Admiral Olesya Cherkasova, I come as an ambassador of the Admiralty, I humbly request permission to speak with a representative of your people."

General Grakus woke to a pounding on his door. Typically a light sleeper, he had exhausted himself on one of his many slaves the previous night. A treat he rarely partakes of while on duty, but occasionally it is necessary to blow off some steam. The pounding continued as the General sat up on his moderately comfortable bed.
"What is it," he yelled through the door.
"A ship, sir, entering our space," said the junior officer as he opened the door.
The General was quick into uniform and made his way to the command center. "Report!"
"One ship, drifting," another junior officer said. "Could be damaged, could be a scout, readings show power. If it's a stealth ship, sir, it's not doing a very good job of hiding."
"Ugh." The General seemed disappointed. "When you woke me I thought it would be at least a cruiser in our midst." Grakus scratched his chin for a moment while he assessed the situation. "Prep the cannons, get some birds in the air, keep a close eye on this ship. If it gets too close or shoots anything out, destroy it. Contact our ships and get them here as fast as--"
"Sir! A transmission!"
"Attention Retaran officials, this is Rear Admiral Olesya Cherkasova, I come as an ambassador of the Admiralty, I humbly request permission to speak with a representative of your people."
Grakus sighed disgustedly. "Another diplomat. Isn't space supposed to be dangerous?"
Though clearly itching for a fight, General Grakus made preparations to receive the guests. He still had his men keep an eye on them, the ever paranoid eye of the Retaren, but they would be greeted.
"Rear Admiral Cherkasova, this is General Grakus of the Retaren Empirical Defense Force. You should be receiving landing coordinates now. An escort will meet you and your entourage and guide you to my conference room where we can meet. Welcome to the Daloth System."

"Grakus, you have my full confidence. You should know that by now." The transmission between the General and the Emperor was a choppy one but it was clear enough for a conversation.
"I hate dealing with diplomats, sir, you know that." General Grakus finished buttoning up his uniform in the conference room as he spoke. The door was locked and he had some time, so he wasn't worried about any interruptions. "I'm not a negotiator, more of a... murderer."
"And a fine one at that," the Emperor said with complete sincerity, "however more established trade will help the Empire. Think of it, Grakus, as a kill. Except the victim is the meeting, and instead of a weapon you have your wits. Be cold and calculating, but appear friendly. Stalk your prey, see what it is they want and what you can get from them. And when it's all said and done, bask in the blood of your victim. Except, of course, in this case that is a metaphor for opening trade, should the Denovan Admiralty have reasonable terms."
"If they aren't reasonable?"
"Well, unless they attack you, just set up another meeting. Negotiations, like good kills, can take time."
"If they attack?"
"Then the blood of your victim's will not be metaphoric."
The general grinned at the Emperor, friends for many years and allies well beyond that. Grakus moved to the door and unlocked it, and then went back to the end of the table where he'd be sitting as he waited for his counterpart to arrive.

Olesya entered shortly, escorted only by a pair of marines who stood at attention behind her. She gave the General a quick glance before moving to the table. She'd been brought here promptly and for that she was grateful but other matters were to be attended to first.
"General Gralkus I presume, greetings and thank you for this prompt meeting. I feel that you are not one for talk so I will be as brief as needed. The Admiralty has finished construction of a new spaceport and is looking for more trade partners to expand our economic growth. The Admiralty's offer is a simple request for an open trade agreement between Denova and the Empire, no politicking or intrusions into domestic affairs but simple trade."
She set a datapad down on the table and pushed it towards the general.

Grakus immediately liked her. Either Olesya also didn't care for the pomp and circumstance of negotiations or she was able to read him well enough to know this would be the best way to approach him. Either trait is admirable. Grakus took the datapad and started scanning over it.
He noticed also that she hadn't sat down. Perhaps she realized just how small she'd have looked in a Retaren chair. Her standing and him sitting, they were nearly eye to eye. He thought that was very clever.
"Of course you understand the bureaucrats are going to insist on analyzing this, but if what you say is true then I see no reason the Retaren Empire and the Denovan Admiralty cannot open a trade route."
