Hardly a week after brokering peace with a powerful neighbor state, Secretary Jaira Devikar was on her way to meet with a much smaller power. But their weakness didn't make them any less interesting to the Union Council. The RWU needed an ally, and the simple, relatively egalitarian people of Nas seemed like the most viable option. So it was that the RWU picket ship Sunray approached the Voyag Home Fleet, broadcasting the following message:
This is the RWN Sunray to the Holy Republic of Voyag fleet, requesting permission to dock. We have diplomatic personnel onboard and wish to negotiate in good faith with your leadership on behalf of the Revolutionary Workers' Union. Repeat...

The message was met with caution as many debated whether or not these were friendly aliens or not. The term "friendly alien" was almost a oxymoron in the minds of the followers of nas, yet here were aliens who not only spoke their language but also not barbaric. Such creatures on board the vessel was an unthinkable taboo, but the people of nas were desperate. The arch paladin had forbidden any non humans to board the home vessels, but a former high observer now serving the hallowed council had other ideas. The former high observer along with her agents created a line of communication seemingly outside the hearing of the arch paladin to the aliens outside. She broadcasts a message that reads:
We'll give you permission to dock, but we must warn you that not all of us are friendly. Board via the rear loading docks, they aren't being watched and hurry, me and an armed escort will be waiting.

It was with some hesitation that Devikar and her comrade-crew decided to follow the unsettling advice of the foreign broadcast. She remembered that the Pilgrims were known for something of a xenophobic attitude, but she hadn't suspected it could go so far that it would endanger a diplomatic emissary. Or was there another reason for the hostility? Either way, the ex-Councilor would have to be especially wary in the strange, enormous ship.
After docking, Devikar along with an aide and two guards were quick to exit their vessel and meet their Nas counterparts - the friendly ones, that was.

Some of the guards began shaking as the aliens revealed themselves. Anxiously fingering the triggers of the pulse rifles, it took a direct order from the observer to get the guards to stand down. Quickly, the observer snapped back from stern to a fake smile. She was quick to bow before the aliens, something met with stifled laughter among the guard. She is quick to get to business, asking one and only one favor, a favor to assassinate arch paladin Gunther so she can rule instead.

This was not the sort of diplomacy Foreign Secretary Jaira Devikar was used to. These humans weren't anything like Asterans or even Viscarri, trembling at the very sight of a non-human (even one shorter than them). And now the leader of the little band was asking her to help murder the Holy Republic's head of state. It took a moment for Devikar to gather her thoughts before replying.
"We might be able to help you, but understand how difficult it is for me to agree right away. What interest do the workers and peasants of the galaxy have in such a coup? Why should we risk any agents or assets on your bid for power?"

The Observer briefly pauses at the question, these aliens aren't the savages propaganda has made them out to be. She considers the diplomat's question, thinking of how to answer it now that these aliens have proven themselves logical beings.
"The situation is grave for our people, we have lost many loved ones to the arch paladin. He sends our civilization on a path to self destruction, if he somehow succeeds in eradicating the hive, then it is only a matter of time before he turns his wrath on all non humans. Our once logical and peaceful civilization is now a host of xenophobic nightmare thanks to his rule. I ask you to kill this man, not just for me but for the galaxy"
The meeting is suddenly interrupted by a strange man dressed in white, sarcastically clapping at the sight before him.
"Nice speech, but I'm afraid that I read those lines in a story book. Oh, Sile how low have you gotten, using xenos to carry out you're dirty work. Now, you little creatures must be the xenos sent to parley with us, I am Sarbon, representative of the arch paladin. So if you're foolish, you can do her bidding and potentially destabilize our nation or you can parley with the paladin himself instead"
"don't listen to him, he's a liar and a cheat"
"name calling, really?"

Secretary Devikar's eyes shifted back and forth between Observer Sile and Sabon. Two complete strangers, seemingly at irreconcilable odds with one another, were fighting for her attention. This was a very unusual diplomatic mission indeed.
"The Union has no loyalty to either of your factions," she clarified. "I was sent here because of rumors that the People of Nas were forced to flee their homeworld by the Hive, which seems to be the case. The Union Council offers you refuge in the New Sovereignty system, where you can carry out your reconstruction in peace. We are also willing to provide you with financial and industrial aid if necessary. We have a shared goal, defeating the Hive.
"However, we cannot offer aid to a regime that would turn against us as soon as the Hive menace is removed. Xenophobic policy will not make you any friends in this galaxy, only non-human enemies who fear you and opportunistic human overlords who will seek to assimilate you - like the Viscarri. Which of you understands this and is willing to negotiate in good faith?"

The two representatives of Nas look at each other in disdain before relenting. They may both be at each other's throats, but their scheming will have to wait another time. Devikar's proposal was the one thing these two can agree on, after all both sought to forge a better nation.
"Well, safe reconstruction and aid for something my leader plans to do anyway. I accept these terms but I am merely a representative, I'll lead to you the arch paladin and he will decide our fate, as for you Sile, we'll settle this another time."
Sile tries to put on another fake smile, but her words still dripped with venom.
"I see you have this under control oh great 'representative'"
Sile storms off with her escort before Sarbon beckons Devikars party to follow him to the arch paladins deck.

Devikar and her comrades followed Sarbon warily. If the Observer was correct, this Arch-Paladin hardly seemed like a gracious host. At least not for non-humans.
"Greetings, I am Assistant Foreign Secretary Jaira Devikar of the Revolutionary Workers' Union," she spoke by way of introduction. "Whom do I have the honor of meeting?"

The arch paladin slowly looked up from his star map, warily staring at the aliens in his office. He got out of his chair, walking with the bearing of a military man and revealing an artificial leg.
"this one talks, interesting, I am Arch-Paladin Raleigh Gunther of the former Saganite territory Astrea. I heard what they told you about me and it is true that I see aliens as overgrown cockroaches but even cockroaches are superior to those demons infesting my former home. So if you wish to help us, then I will make sure that my civilization is a worthy ally and unlike these court snakes, I keep my word."

The Arch-Paladin's line was neither as disturbing as Devikar might have feared nor as welcoming as she might have hoped. But unlike the unforseen debacle in the shuttle bay, this was something the ex-Councilor was used to.
"I will repeat the offer I communicated to your colleagues. The Union Council offers the Pilgrims of Nas refuge in the New Sovereignty System, where you can carry out your reconstruction in peace. We are also willing to provide you with financial and industrial aid if necessary. In return, we ask that the Fleet of Nas contribute to the defense of the New Sovereignty System, and that once prepared you join in our expeditions against the Hive. Are these terms acceptable?"

The Arch-Paladin slowly chuckled at the proposal, as a silenced filled the room. Suddenly the arch paladin stops chuckling and stares right at Devikar with dead serious eyes.
"Get aid for something I was going to do anyway and with some much needed meat in that grinder. I accept these terms and will protect your people as if they were my own, but only if you do the same, keep your word and I will keep mine"

"I promise you, the Union will protect the people of Nas as if they were our own," the Ayar agreed. "Do we have an agreement?"

"Excellent. When should we expect you in the New Sovereignty System?"
