The first freely elected President in Asteron's history was wanted man, though hardly in a good way. The PUF wanted his head on a stick and ironically the only thing that was keeping him in power was the armies disgust with the RWU. It would be a careful game to play one against the other over the next few months or he would end up like Asteron's former revolutionary leader, President Ambrose. The wealthy industrialist didn't intend to be shot by firing squad within his own palace. Upon his election, one of his first acts was to contact the Kwazan. With the RWU refusing to recognize his government and the stranglehold they had over the Asteran economy, the Union desperately needed alternatives. He had requested meetings with the Kwazan as soon as possible.

The Kwazan Conglomerate had seemingly been expecting Sidow's call - perhaps even his election. They had quietly set up an embassy and business tower in Asteron where the head of state could easily call upon them. When President Sidow sent his invitation, it took less than a day for the diplomat Rwanadi Tasaha to arrive at the presidential palace for a meeting with the esteemed politician.
"Congratulations on your successful election, President." She bowed formally, presenting him with a small box. "I hope you do not mind - I took the liberty of acquiring a congratulatory gift to commemorate the event."

After an hour spent butting heads with Foreign Minister Kniov, a friendly face was welcome. President Sidow returned the bow and the gift, unwrapping its contents carefully. '' I thank you for the gift ambassador. I will treasure it. '' After his tumulteous meeting with the RWU, he only hoped that he would live to treasure it. ' Please Ambassador Tasaha, sit and join me. I have many plans for Asteron and I hope that the Conglomerate will be apart of them. '' After all the money that they had donated to his campaign, of course they would be apart of it.

The ambassador sat as bidden, sitting back in her seat in a relaxed manner. Kwazan decorum was less stiff than Asteran - a relaxed poise could be considered more formal and regal than a rigid form. "Indeed? Perhaps you would be willing to share these plans with me? My government is certainly willing to consider proposals from a more open-minded executive like yourself."

'' The Asteran government under my administration is very interested in boosting its industrial capacity. However, our own resources at the moment are not enough or fast enough for my tastes. The people need to see signs of tangible progress in their everyday lives and economy. It's only with more jobs and better paying ones that the working man's plight can be solved. I am interested in negotiating a treaty for Kwazan engineers, labor, and materials to help speed along construction. The project would require fifteen million manhours (15 Industry). ''

"That's quite the request." She replied, although she was not the slightest bit fazed by the number. "In the current year we could offer five million man hours (5 Industry), with the potential of more next year. We can offer this initial amount free of charge - consider it reconstruction aid in the wake of the Hive war. If you still require more assistance next year we can discuss the issue then."
"On another note, my government would like to convey an invitation to you or your ambassador. The Conglomerate recently arrested one "Agent Petrov" on charges of espionage and incitement to violence within our colony. The trial itself will be closed doors, but we have reserved a section for an Asteran delegation." Agent Petrov, she knew, had been a thorn in the president's side. Seeing him put on trial would no doubt improve the president's mood and remind the RWU that it could not meddle in other nation's affairs with impunity. The Conglomerate had made sure the Asteran section was right up front for a good view - right next to the Wuxian section.

'' Thank you for the aid. I will not refuse it. Any such man or materials that the Conglomerate can spare towards the reconstruction is much appreciated. I was wondering if you would perhaps consent to my intelligence officers interviewing Comrade Petrov in an undisclosed location before the trial? He was able to cause a great deal of unrest on my world. He'll have contacts, information that my people will need to ensure that the Ayar know that there role in influencing Asteran affairs is over. "Comrade Petrov will remain in our custody." Tasaha replied succinctly, "I do understand your concern, but we would prefer not to move here or otherwise compromise security in such a way that the RWU may be able to effect an escape or assassination. If it is information you desire, we are more than willing to provide you with transcripts of our own interrogations."
"On another note, I would like to express my government's interest in establishing a treaty of open trade and passage with the Asteran government. The rise of your new regime has opened the door to great opportunities, and my government is highly interested in seizing the opportunity. We foresee a prosperous future for Asteron." She paused. "The travel agreement would also be of great benefit, I expect. There are many potential new allies for Asteron that lie beyond Kwazan."

'' I was thinking more along the lines that our intelligence officials could visit Petrov while he was in your custody. '' Sidow said, trying to see if he could gauge where the ambassador stood but eventually dropped the issue. It was a dog chasing its own tail, the leads that Petrov provided might lead his own men in circles regardless. '' Any intelligence or transcripts that you would be willing to share would be invaluable. '' The President leaned back in his chair as the ambassador launched into a new topic. '' I am readily eager to accept any new travel agreement. But at the present moment our infrastructure to promote trade is at maximum capacity. I will be eager to revisit the subject however when a new orbital port has been constructed. ''
