Twice the Hive had battered and defeated the Asteron forces, almost annihilating the defender's armies at Torgau and outside of Ezria. Now the RWU had come to the aid of its allies. Thousands of people's militia and revolutionary guards had landed on the planet, and now marched on Ezria. The RWU's leaders were intent on recapturing the sector before the bugs could utterly destroy the region and entrench themselves. Victory could end the threat once and for all, but the assault would entail great risk. Even battered, the Hive's armies were a match for the RWU's forces.
The Hive units had been busy preparing to defend the Sector. The RWU's rapid assault had denied them the time necessary to burrow true fortifications into the area, but makeshift defensive preparations had been set up to inhibit the advancing armies. Earthen ditches for armor and artillery had been dug out and large streets barricaded with collapsed buildings or makeshift walls. The Hive's infantry had been in the process of dispersing when the advance began, and only a portion of them would be available for direct command during the battle. The other cells, however, might still prove useful if the fight were to spill out over a large area of the sector. The Hive also had a relatively safe fallback option, should they choose to retreat: Rak'Yot had prepared and covered a route back to Torgau which had been kept relatively safe and secure. In the event of defeat the armies could retreat, at least for a while.
Asteron itself was in bad shape, but would not be caught doing nothing while the RWU marched onward to fight the Hive. General Kruger accompanied the RWU's forces as an advisor, while the remaining air forces would sally from the nearby military sector to provide air support.

OPERATION SUNRISE: TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO ALL REVOLUTIONARY WORKERS' ARMY TAKUDARS
- Continued from Page 1 -
...The Revolutionary Guard will lead, with the 11th Guard Infantry Corps in a staggered arc covering the entire front of advance, to scout enemy positions and draw enemy fire. They are not to assault any positions, but should return fire and pin enemies down if possible. The 12th Guard Infantry and all Guard Armor will follow close behind as the primary assault force to be directed by the 11th, in turn followed by People's Militia Infantry and Armor acting as a mobile reserve. Artillery will remain at the rear section with the airfields, free to target any visible hostile defenses until the position of their artillery is revealed, at which point artillery will devote all possible force to counter-battery fire. Air forces will wait for directions from infantry spotters before attack. They are free to attack with as much firepower and force of numbers as field commanders deem necessary to cover the advance and neutralize specific enemy positions. Air forces are advised not to target enemy artillery until suppressed by counter-battery fire.
____
Private Koldar Mbali Ogunwe's eyes were darting rapidly from point to point on the horizon as she jogged forward with her body half-crouched. There wasn't much she could do to be under cover while keeping up with the pace of the advance, so she was relying on her eyes to pick up enemies before they could fire. So far, nothing...at least nothing she could see. Sometimes she wished she had an Ayar nose, but then again they weren't picking anything up either from what she could tell from her furry comrades on either side and behind.
It was comforting to hear the supersonic roaring of artillery shells flying above, but the railguns were only targeting defenses visible through magnified lenses from their own position. It was up to Koldar and her comrades to find any other bugs hiding around, and she was on point for her squad. The least enviable job in the least enviable Corps of this operation. She was keeping her gun in her tail's grip so, when either she saw the insectoids or they started shooting at her, she would have her arms free to fall right down. Even if she wanted to die a martyr, firing from upright was not the way to do much damage before getting cut to pieces.
The private's eyes widened as she caught sight of something strange moving in the rubble of what looked like a suburban grocery store. Are those...antennae?
__________
SUMMARY: -- 1 inf unit from the 1st Revolutionary Guard leads the advance in a loose formation to spot enemy positions, draw fire, and deliver suppressive fire against enemies once identified. -- Close behind is the rest of the Guard infantry and armor, which will concentrate forces against any strong-points identified by the infantry screen. -- Behind the Guard are the People's Militia infantry and armor, which will reinforce any Guard assaults as necessary. -- People's Militia artillery fires at currently-identifiable defensive positions. As more positions are revealed, exclusive priority will be placed on enemy artillery. -- Air forces await the signal from the infantry for close air support and targeted bombing runs. Because of the large amount of air support available, no specific priority has been assigned, but enemy artillery is to be avoided until/unless suppressed by the RWU guns.

Engines screamed, the roar of hundreds of aircraft filling the sky reminded the Major of a great host of birds or perhaps more appropriately locust. The ground below seemed devoid of life and vegetation, while thankfully the vast majority of civilians had been evacuated, there were those whom had not been. But the insects didn't seem to just eat human flesh, anything that was organic was eaten and processed as part of the creatures appetite, leaving little in their wake but lifeless husks.
Radio chatter was common as the airmen approached their targets. The strike craft were heavily laden with bombs. While the bulk of the army had been bloodied and nearly destroyed over two consecutive battles, it was the Asteran Air Corp that had kept the Union in the fight. Constant air raids had kept the enemy bottled up and from infiltrating the more populated portions of the country. The Battle of Torgau had assured the Asteran's air dominance, he only hoped that the Second Battle of Ezria would ensure a final victory for his people.
Major Kluwe banked his J-22 Fighter, watching the serpentine columns of tanks, artillery, and infantry swarm towards the sprawling research sector. While many of his compatriots had cheered the RWU's arrival into the frey, the Major himself had mixed feelings. On the one hand, without the RWU, the Asteran army surely would've been defeated. Yet it was the Asteran's themselves whom had bled the enemy down to the bone and now their revolutionary brothers were here to take the glory? A scowl slipped over his features, obscured only by his rebreather mask.
'' General Kruger has identified targets for all air wings as well as secondary objectives. Stand by. ''
Operation Sunrise was about to begin. It was jokingly referred to the airmen as Operation Flyswatter. Regardless, the Major was determined that the bugs would not devour yet another sector of his planet.
'' C> Fangs out. '' Command chirped. Kluwe thumbed the arming switch for his missiles and began his descent to begin the hunt.
SUMMARY: -- The Asteran Air Corp joins in on the attack (using RWU air fields to resupply for new sorties).
-- General Kruger coordinates the attack from the ground, acting as a liason between the Asteran and RWU ground forces.
-- Asteran Air Force will focus on suppressing enemy artillery and armor that presents a threat to the infantry advance.

Time does not wait, and it seems the break between battles was over.
Sooner than it should of.
A new army marched against them, not yet worn by the toils of war.
If they kept the sector, it would only be by the whim of chance.
But chance was all it had now, and any chance to destroy the Queenslayers, was a chance worth taking.
It sent memory of this new army with the slower communication drones.
As they gradually disseminated events back home.
No where near the speed of the emergency broadcast. It would be sent in the next hour along with battle results.
It-That-Eternally-Hungers moved.
======================= -Infantry continues with its orders, Hiding in hard to reach, and easy to miss places. They slip past the enemy advance as they allow them to pass them by. Giving them opportunity to move to find better hiding locations. They will disrupt supply lines during the battle if able, before continuing their splinter operation.
-Armor hides when able for incoming enemy, in fortified positions, And will wait until enemy takes offensive action, or until enemy is in position for ambush. If forced back, they will make a fighting retreat to pre-set fallback positions.
-Artillery Hides in fortified positions, waiting for enemy air to come by and shooting it down. if their position is shown to be revealed they will begin to hammer advancing infantry until they are forced to move, retreating to fortified fallback positions.
-Rok'Yot is sent word to prepare for their withdraw, with better defenses, and ambushes.

The first shots of the Battle for Ezria were the snap of small arms and blast of acid from attack drones. All up and down the sector small groups of forward infantry skirmished in short, vicious firefights. The combat was too small and quick for support to move in and in many cases too small to make a real dent, but it had big effects. The Hive's infantry were unable to fully repel the RWU's scouts, but were able to blunt their reach and create several breakthroughs. Those holes would allow forward Hive regiments to disperse towards the RWU's flanks and go to ground, while blunting the RWU's forward scouts prevented the easy tracking of the Hive's artillery.
Behind the forward scouts came the full column of the 1st Revolutionary Guard making a steady sweep inward. The sweep was well coordinated, but It-that-eternally-hungers was a skilled general and had organized his infantry well. The losing infantry fell back steadily to more defensible positions, fighting as they went, while those that could slipped past the front lines.
Finally the true clash began. The Revolutionary Guard's main column met with the Hive's main armored columns and remaining infantry. The RWU's forward infantry served as spotters, identifying hard points and ambush sites so that heavy armor and infantry could engage them. The fighting was fierce, but the RWU had a key advantage: airpower and artillery support. One by one the Hive's regiments were pushed back and holdouts destroyed. With careful precision the fighters took down bug after bug.
But It-that-eternally-hungers had foreseen this development. At the risk of leaving the forward units unsupported, it had held all the Hive's artillery in reserve to strike at the enemy's airpower. As the coalition aircraft ran devastating bombing runs against the Hive's armor the artillery opened fire, launched swarms of winged parasites who behaved similarly to missiles, burrowing into planes or exploding into showers of crystalline bone shrapnel. They struck with deadly proficiency, returning in the air the ruin that had been sown on the ground. The RWU's own artillery attempted counter-battery fire, but their attacks were sporadic and inaccurate. The Hive artillery, entrenched in safe positions, barely suffered casualties.
Cohesion was shot, on both sides. The Hive's units suffered from aerial attack and lack of soldiers. The Revolutionary Guard's advance was blunted against defenses and the horrors of fighting the bugs who had devoured two armies before them. Both sides reeled from the clash. There was no fleeing or panic, but the fighting tapered off as units slowed and became more reluctant to advance or engage.
------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY 1st Revolutionary Guard and Rak'Tik'Tak both Demoralized and will fight with reduced strength and cohesion without a rest 1 Regiment of Hive Unity Infantry breaks through. They may Go to Ground, leaving the battle to fight as insurgents, or try to strike at vulnerable assets in the rear.

Revolutionary Workers' Army Field HQ, Rear Section"Commander, air wings reporting 50% casualties!" exclaimed a concerned-looking human man in grey body armor, sitting at a radio inside the Command Vehicle of the RWA. The space was cramped, large enough for no more than five people, but it had readouts for everything a commander could need: radar, friendly unit tracker locations, estimated enemy positions triangulated from reports from the ground. Acting General Andrasa Vilodor turned her head so her eyes and snout could face the communications officer. She was in the same armor, but her rank was obvious in her demeanor. Both by appearance and smell, she was impassive and unphased. "Any word on counter-battery fire?" "Their fire isn't slowing down, we're not hitting anything!" "Change of plans. Artillery cease counter-battery fire and go entirely free for spotter calls on the ground." "What about the air force?" Vilodor blinked and lowered her head as if to give a lesson. "They are doing their job. The only mistake was trying to take out their artillery so early. All fire support is now available for the main push. The best way to get their guns is to break their line as quickly as possible. Understood?" The communications officer sighed. "Yes ma'am, relaying your orders now..." ____ 1st People's Militia, Front LineThe Revolutionary Guard had paved the way for the assault, but now they were exhausted and shaken. It was time to switch roles: The People's Militia would lead now, and the Guard would act as their reserve. Guard Infantry in their grey standardized armor suits cheered as the Militia in their mish-mash of uniforms and armor passed through them. They didn't have quite the level of armored force available to the Guard, but they had more than enough to finish the job. There was just one distinct change to the operation: Because of muddled reports of a possible enemy breakthrough, a section of the Guard was sent back to cover the rear. The advance continued methodically, but the pace increased. Now free to call in artillery as well as air-strikes, more strong-points could be assaulted all at once. Any time a cluster of enemies was discovered, fire support was called and then the attack began, walker tanks in front for overwhelming suppressive firepower and mobile cover. People's Militia Scythe Walkers lead the charge against an enemy gun-nest.
_________ SUMMARY: -- Artillery AND Airpower now devoted exclusively to supporting the main advance, in order to shatter the enemy main line as quickly as possible. -- People's Militia now lead the advance, with Revolutionary Guard as reserve. Scout infantry merged back into the main formation. If any breakthroughs are made, Militia forces will make a rapid advance to neutralize enemy artillery. The Revolutionary Guard can fill in any gaps and/or encircle the enemy as necessary. -- I Infantry and I Armor from the Revolutionary Guard go backwards to investigate reports of an enemy breakthrough earlier in the battle. First priority is to ensure the artillery and air bases are safe, second priority is to locate any enemy regiments if they are not attacking the rear. They are free to call in fire support just like the main advance.

28,000 Feet overhead:
They were dropping like flies. Once again, Kluwe and his comrades were flying into the teeth of enemy anti-aircraft fire. The radio was alive with pilots as they struggled to climb, evade, and outfox the insect batteries on the ground. The one good thing was that now that the enemy had exposed themselves by firing, they could now be targeted by the Asteran Air Force, which responded to the flurry of anti-aircraft fire with a barrage of missiles and guided bombs on dug in targets. Yet Kluwe realized that it would infantry and tanks could dig out the enemy far faster than targeted bombs and with the enemy artillery under pressure on the ground, they would be less inclined to shoot at the air forces circling above their heads like buzzards.
It was with a sigh of relief that word came in from General Kruger to support the Guard tank advance. The Asteran Air Force would be tasked with blowing a hole into the hardened enemy structures that offered the worst of the obstacles and were cooperating closely with both RWU and Asteran troops that were on the ground acting as forward air controllers. With three bombs left in his underbelly, he would have to select his targets carefully...
SUMMARY:
-- Rather than flying into the teeth of enemy artillery, the Asteran Air Corp has turned its attention to supporting the main armored thrust by the Ayar by providing close air support as they advance. The objective is to provide mass pressure on the enemy line, allowing the armor and infantry to advance within striking distance of the enemy artillery units.

It-That-Eternally-Hungers was moving, its many legs rolling across the ground in smooth waves, as It mentally commanded the battle. Losses where everywhere, but at least It had managed to keep its forces together.
With resources dwindling, and death saturating the air, it only had a few more tricks remaining.
One last infliction of losses. One last trap to weaken their forces, so what they would bring against the hive is lessened if only by that much.
It had few options remaining now. It took them.
--------------------------------------------- -The last of the armored are to create a bulwark of resistance, while the Artillery forms up behind them. -Artillery is to set up a killbox. Half will fire upon clusters of advancing positions, the other half will take out any Air. -The enemy is wised up to his tricks. Infantry is to focus entirely on surviving to sneak away and cause destruction. Losing them now is the most detrimental long term.
-With nothing in space at the moment. Transports are to begin lift off in mass with listed units. (PM'd Talis) --Should this fail, alternate instructions will instead be taken (Also PM'd)

The Revolutionary Guard's withdrawal was slower than General Vilodor would have liked. Damaged vehicles and mechs had to be repaired or towed out of the combat zone, and wounded carried or evacuated. The regiments commanders, perhaps tired from the intense fighting, did things by-the-book but not as hastily as possible. This delayed the militia's advance slightly, but aside from lost time caused no serious issues.
The Hive's forces did not have the luxury of taking advantage of the pause, for their positions were under unrelenting attack by aircraft and artillery. Bombs, missiles and ordinance of all types rained down upon the defenders like a hail of fire, blasting giant armored bugs and scattering warrior drones across the rubble. When the militia made their push, the remaining Hive drones dissolved like paper before a river. The Hive's armor was annihilated to the last drone, and the elated militia pressed on with intense vigor, pushing hard against the enemy artillery. The casualties were grim and painful, but no one could doubt the valor of the RWU's soldiers that day. They charged through artillery-fire and battered streets with calls of "for the revolution!" and destroyed drone after drone. Victory had been achieved, and Ezria was theirs.
But It-That-Eternally-Hungers was no amateur general. Seeing the potential destruction of his forces he had ordered his infantry to withdraw as soon as the fighting lulled. While the bombardment had continued and the Revolutionary Guard had been busy withdrawing, he and his infantry began a full retreat. The Armored section and artillery had been a rear guard, with a duty to delay and distract the enemy. Now they were in retreat, and beyond the range of enemy artillery. Thanks to their valorous assault the militia were close behind, but they were also bloodied and tired, and would have to push hard to catch up to the fleeing enemy.
And so the choice now lay at the feet of the RWU and Asteron: to risk more blood and exhaustion pursuing the fleeing enemy, or allow It-That-Eternally-Hungers and several regiments of Hive infantry to make it back to Ezria and their fresh reinforcements?
SUMMARY RWU forces retake Ezria Hive General and some infantry have retreated out of artillery range. Only armor or airpower is fast enough to pursue and catch retreating units (infantry can pursue, but will be unable to catch up). 1 Regiment of Hive Infantry has gone to ground and may attempt guerrilla tactics in the sector.

Ezria Sector, Central District
" Command says all enemy units are fleeing! The battle is won!" came the first shout. " Did you hear that?! THE BUGS HAVE TURNED TAIL!" came another. Soon soldiers across dozens of miles of the battered cityscape were shouting and cheering, tankers popping out of vehicle hatches and infantry dropping their weapons. Ayar, Kwazans, Wuxianese, and humans leaped for joy and hugged and even began singing songs amidst the rubble. Those who could speak Asteran invited civilians to join in. The insect invaders that had so terrified Asteron had been defeated for the first time, and defeated handily at that. Orders from General Vilodor were for ground forces to rest and regroup, and the troops were happy to comply in their own jubilant way. One Militia platoon found a relatively intact, tall building rising into a clear section of sky amidst the flames and smoke. It was the perfect place for a flag... ____ Skies Above Ezria
For the ground sloggers the battle was over, but the airfolk still had a job to do. Commander Ymir Galaer caught sight of the red flag for a brief moment, and he wondered how his native Asteran kinsfolk would feel about the gesture. It was a bona fide RWA Militia flag, but it looked eerily similar to the old Asteran Red Guard banner. But no matter; he had hardly spotted it before it was behind him. Though he couldn't pick them out with his eyes yet, he knew the bugs were ahead. "C > Command, this is Wing Commander D. We've passed the Central District, enemy located on radar. We are closing fast. Please advise." "C > This is Vilodor. Pursue and destroy. Alternate your runs with the Asteron Union, we'll be switching off so someone is after them at all times. Cut off chase only if you encounter proper Anti-Air fire, which would mean you've hit another bug army. Same orders have been relayed to all wings." "C > Understood. D-Wing out." By now Galaer could see the first little dots and specks of enemies on the horizon. It was time to let them know they wouldn't get away from the Wrath of Revolution that easily, especially not after how many of his friends they had shot down. "C > This is Wing Commander. Weapons free, kids!" The man felt something of a cruel grin extend across his face, under his mask and visor. Revenge would taste sweet today. __________ SUMMARY: -- Infantry, Armor, and Artillery cease attack. They are to rest and regroup for the next battle. (EXCEPTION: The 1 inf / 1 armor devoted to investigating the possible breakthrough will only stop once they confirm the rear section is safe). -- Airpower gives chase to the fleeing Hive forces, planning to alternate runs with the Union of Asteron's airforce so that there is always one group actively pursuing and keeping the enemy in sight. They will cut off their pursuit if they encounter stiff resistance suggesting a fresh enemy army with artillery.

General Kruger scowled as he watched holo-pict's of the RWU flag go up that were being filtered back to him in real time by Air Corp aircraft overheard. The first '' true '' victory by the Revolutionary Workers Union had been little more than a mop up operation, launched with extensive Asteran air support against an enemy that had taken heavy losses. Yet would his troops whom had bloodied themselves to pieces and held the line get the credit they deserved? The General thought not.
'' Major Corwin, make sure that flag comes down within the hour and replace it with a proper Asteran one. Censor all images to the public.'' He said to his aide from his command post, whom noting the significance of a foreign flag (ally or not) flying on Asteran soil, would be quick to act. Not withstanding that it resembled the star of the hated Red Guard, a raging insurgency movement that had killed thousands of Asteran soldiers over the years.....he would be having a word with General Vilodor.
Quietly, he approved of the decision not to send armor chasing after the bugs (and had sent a communique warning the Ayar of such a maneuver). Kruger had learned at his own peril what could happen when you went in for the kill, the tables would rapidly turn and an army could be eaten down to the bone. In the meantime, the Asteran Air Corp would continue its pursuit of the enemy bugs, dropping their munitions and coordinating strikes with the Ayar comrades. The Battle for Ezria was over but Kruger was keen to liberate Torgau and at last push the hated insectoids from his world.
SUMMARY: -- Asteran Air Corp continues its assault on fleeing bugs, coordinating its strikes with its RWU counterparts.
-- If heavy anti aircraft fire is encountered, they will withdraw back to Tambov where the Asteran army is beginning preparations to move on Torgau.

It-That-Eternally-Hunters ran in a furry. From the dying eyes of of a artilalry drone it saw the humans.
And it raged.
The queenslayers drove a marker into the ground they had stolen back, It could see each and every stitch in the edible cloth with its eyes.
It burned inside with its hatred as it moved, guiding its infantry away.
Already they where organized into the small bands of resistance to form up, but first they must live to fight another day.
Anything to stop the Queen-slayers. The Taboo breakers. The one sin to never be forgiven. Even as It watched the enemy soldiers desecrate the bodies of
its fallen drones. It did not begrudge them that. For to loose was to be food for the enemy.
No, it begrudged them their purpose, and by extension their very existence. They must be stopped, their hope crushed.
By whatever means necessary.
It shared its thoughts with its troupes, and felt their still gaping horror that these beings would seek to harm the lifegivers.
Never before had the Unity faced such pure evil before this day.
The sound of air above them roared with flights of enemy Aircraft even now. Pot shoting any bugs they happened to cross.
Its troupes traveled hard, fast, and under cover, to live. For they must, if the Uniity is to have any chance at holding off these monsters.
As a small token effort, It-That-Eternally-Hungers forced the voices of any injured and captured or dying,
Let their conversation be repeated exactly as it happened. Let them see the monsters they fought aside. Let this new army know of the Queenslayers nature, if they knew what they fought aside, they may henge their support. Though It-That-Eternally-Hungered doubted the monsters allies would be any less monstrous.
It couldn't make that assumption, not again.
It would at least raise questions as to the nature of their duty, let them know they had fought and died when the Unity was willing to leave.
Let them know the unforgivable nature of their crime their Queenless leaders plan, and the cost they had payed. Their lack of true Unity may stir up problems.
Let them know that forgiveness will not be given to those who would break the greatest of taboos.
=======================================================================
-Infantry are to disperse widely and move when opportunity presents itself, traveling indoors and cutting holes in walls <Brickbreaker> to prevent enemies from gaining line of sight.
-It-That-Eternally-Hungers sends a message ahead to finish preparations with the transports.
-Rak'Yot is to complete preparations to disperse Infantry as listed, It fires upon approaching air if able.
-The injured and captured relay the message through their primitive speech as one. They repeat the entire conversation from [diplomacy] from earlier, showing the insects would of left willingly, and the insects offered protection for food. How all the losses where entirely avoidable. (Should hurt moral, and perhaps cause a problem with enemy diplomatic relations)
Note: The bug part will be translated as it was previously, but the human part will be exactly reproduced as it was said, making it sound more legitimate as their will be less errors, not accounting for insectoid accent.
-Repeat the message "We offered you Unity. We offered to leave. You swore kill Queens. Unforgivable." from GC post. by all speech capable drones so captured for as long as they are able.

The RWU and Asteron airforce would pursue the Hive forces for many miles, bombarding them from above. It-That-Eternally-Hungers took precautions, but some casualties were inevitable. Still, he escaped alive and well himself, and with many drones yet. Upon arriving in Torgau the Hive armies immediately began embarking onto their organic transports and preparing to depart into the now unguarded space above the planet. Victory, it seemed, was now in the hands of the revolution.
Asteron's armies had been nearly annihilated, but despite casualties its airforce stood strong and proud, a single undefeated force among great tolls of death. In the aftermath of the battle for Ezria the chairman himself would grant numerous medals and decorations to the valiant airmen who had served throughout the entire campaign. Their regiments, the 52nd Air, soon earned the nicknames of "Flyswatter."
Among the RWU many medals were distributed as well. The valiant militiamen who had lead the final assault were hailed for their bravery and zeal. One Private Kries Velu was even posthumously admitted into the vaunted Order of the Revolutionary Vanguard for valor and bravery in battle after he charged headlong through an acid barrage and took out three artillery bugs, freeing a pinned company from their barrage and opening the way to advance (he succumbed to the acid burns and died before medical help could arrive). The courage of the 2nd Militia Regiment was especially noted, and the revolution's media would no doubt be following their exploits in the campaigns to come.
