Torgau Sector: A massive hive of factories, industrial plants and housing built into an enormous tangled mess that sprawled out for hundreds of miles. It was here the Hive's armies landed abruptly and with little warning. They had invaded swiftly and with no warning, leaving civilians and first responders almost no time to prepare or evacuate. Aside from a few well-connected VIPs few civilians had gotten out. The universal reaction was mass panic and carnage; cell towers were overloaded, police and emergency services overwhelmed. Getting people out would fall to the military, another distraction they could ill afford.
The 2nd Union army had rushed to the scene, arriving just as the first bug ships landed and began disgorging their swarms of troops. They were horribly outnumbered, having only the temporary advantage of mobilization: the Hive's armies would take time to fully deploy, time during which they would not be able to bring their full force to bear. If the Asterans were lucky, they could hold off the invaders to buy time and then retreat to safety.
Near the center of Torgau Sector the Asterans took their biggest gambit. Dozens of nuclear technicians had been assembled at the sector's primary reactor with orders to rig it to explode as a fusion bomb. The attempt was desperate; the reactor was designed to fail safe, and would require extensive overrides and changes if it was to go critical in precisely the right way to achieve what the commanders wanted. This would take time, and there was no guarantee it would work. The reactor might fail to explode, or go off too soon or too late to do any good. In the worst case it might explode too energetically, destroying not just the Sector but a good chunk of the planet. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

NOTES -- There will be 3 Modmarks -- The nuclear Technicians will be done their preparations by the beginning of Turn 3. If all goes as plan the plant will explode at the end of turn 3. -- Civilians are widespread in the sector. Panic will reduce the Union of Asteron's cohesion for 1 Turn. If Asteron wishes to evacuate civilians it must divert military units to do so. -- Hive forces are disembarking. For the 1st turn the Hive may only use half the units from each army. All units will be disembarked by Turn 2.

It-That-Eternally-Hunters felt it's forces disembark.
The soft fleshy organics ran about its ship deliciously in panic as they fled to their primitive shelters. Already a few worker drones attempted to engage the hive, but they where already killed and being processed in the ships.
Their soldier cast would soon be upon them however, and they would not fall nearly so easily.
A small bit of strangeness caught Its attention. The activity in the reactor was an anomaly. The worker drones did not move with panic, and others appearing as solider drones protected them. Reactors are not something so rare and precious to warrant protection.
Unknowns must be corrected...
Hunger must be sated.
---------------------------------------------- Rak'Tak and Rak'Yot are to engage the enemy forces as they become available, with Rak'Tak being the primary front line, and Rak'Yot supporting.
-All artillery are to fire upon the Fission reactor unless they have a clear trajectory to a known enemy position. or if given a tactical order that may change the flow of the battlefield. (Most species make their reactors designed to fail on the NOT explode in a ball of continent Should the reactor deactivate they focus entirely on the enemies position.
-Air is to focus entirely upon bringing down enemy air units, and will swarm around the staging area/Artillery.
-Rak'Tik is to acquires living terrestrials and use their flailing bodies as shields to help with the advance, and hopefully give the enemy pause. Allied bugs are instructed to coordinate with this lapse and to bite/acid spray any hesitant/stunned defenders. Should Rak'Tik find an over-abudence of "shields', they will give them to other infantry/Armored to carry forward as shields, and new ones will be aquired. Dead bodies will be dropped, and new ones acquired as needed from the local population. (They can be retrieved again, once the battle is over. Not like they are going anywhere)

Skoda Works: '' This is insane. '' Rufus Tanner said, he was sweating inside his hazmat suit. '' We can't do this. It'll kill so many... '' '' We have to do this. '' Bozidar Zenum, the chief nuclear technician growled. '' Have you forgotten what's at stake? If those damned things manage to get through the sector, they'll have devoured half the bloody world before we can stop them. Not to mention Rufus.. they have our families and we're under the gun. Don't forget your damned duty to the Union. '' He said nodding his head towards several soldiers that had joined them in the reactor. Their expressions were unreadable behind their masks but their intent was not if the technicians failed General Kruger. '' Open containment door number one... '' Rufus said, his voice breaking into a hysterical sob as the first massive door that shielded the reactor swung open. The party began their march down the long tunnel. ------------------------------------------------------- Enemy Landing Zones: Major Kluwe jerked his J-24 '' Vampire '', deploying chaff as a '' missile '' or was it some sort of spore pursued him with a hunger that matched the bugs insatiable appetite. Warning lights screamed and klaxons whined as Kluwe brought his fighter into a hard turn in an attempt to avoid it. The break and the chaff was enough to avoid death as his pursuer abated and Kluwe was free to commence another attack run. His target reticule sang as he caught a bug fighter beginning its ascent into the sky. The insect didn't make it far as Kluwe depressed the arming switch, sending a '' Shrike '' air to air missile plowing into his underbelly. The bioship exploded in a burst of flame as Kluwe activated his bombs, releasing six five thousand pounders to explode on a column of enemy infantry that had begun to swarm from a dropship. The skies over the landing zone was getting increasingly hairy as more and more enemy aircraft offloaded. Thankfully however (for Kluwes sake) the bulk of the enemy artillery seemed to be focused on the city and not the sky, leaving an opening for the air arm of the Second Army to pounce. ------------------------------------------------------------ Western Outskirts of Torgau:
The 8th Company engages
The enemy artillery was falling like rain, uncontrollable fires were raging throughout parts of the city, civilians were fleeing in terror. Captain Tadic waited like a hunter for his prey. The sheer heat generated by the fires and the overall clutter and output of the industrial district as a whole meant that the Captain and his '' Centurion '' Mark IV class mech were virtually invisible to enemy auspexes. '' Dumb bastards.. what the hell are they shooting at? The reactor? '' Sergeant Sakaro, his gunner remarked. Thankfully, the enemy, at least for the moment was primarily out of range. Torgau was hundreds of miles long and it seemed only the heavier enemy artillery was landing anywhere close to its target from the Lieutenant's perspective. '' They'll be in range soon enough. I've got motion on the auspex. '' Tense, long minutes passed, the enemy swarming closer. The sounds of machine gun and rifle fire had already becoming apparent. The infantry at last were coming to grips with the enemy troops. '' C> Bastards are using civilians as shields. '' The vox squawked, it was from one of the infantry companies infront of him. '' C> Sakaro...magnify.. '' The guns targeting reticules zoomed in on the enemy swarm approaching them. Civilians being shoved roughly ahead of them, the soldiers were hesitating to fire. Something had to be done. '' C> Command, this is Captain Tadic 8th Company, 36th Armored. We have confirmed sightings of civilians being used as human shields. Please advise on rules of engagement. '' '' C> Captain Tadic, the rules of engagement remain unchanged. Fire at will. '' The vox replied, the voice behind it grim. '' C> Acknowledged command... '' Like an avenging angel, the Centurion mech emerged from the rubble of a nearby warehouse. The eight meter high mech was armed to the teeth with a mixture of autocannons for anti-personnel and high velocity 160mm cannon that was capable of firing kinetic rounds. It was joined by over twenty other mechs that were now emerging to give the platoon much needed fire support. '' C> 8th Company... ENGAGE! '' Cannons roared, machine guns screamed, both man and bugs died. SUMMARY:-- Work begins on setting the fusion reactor to critical by engineering teams. -- Taking advantage of limited aerial support that the Hive can muster and the fact that the bulk of Hive artillery has been turned towards Torgau City, the Air Force launches a massive sortie to attack enemy landing forces. Primary targets include enemy infantry and artillery support as they disgorge. -- Entrenched Union forces wage a war of attrition against the invading bugs. Habs are brought down to create bottlenecks, with troops calling in accurate artillery fire on enemy positions in order to create mass casualties.

Modmark
The air was filled with the roar of jets, the crash of explosions, and the whine and pop of guns and chaff as the Asteron Airforce flew into battle against the giant flyers and strange, living missiles of the Hive. Despite the Hive's numbers its air power was limited, and the valor of desperation of the Asteron planes soon prevailed. Beast after beast soon fell to earth in a shower of gore or fire, and the presence of the Asteron fighters became more ubiquitous over Hive positions everywhere. Soon, if nothing changed, Asteron would achieve complete air superiority and be able to bombard the Hive at will.
Things on the ground were much bloodier. Even at limited deployment the bugs outnumbered Asteron's 2nd Union Army by more than two-to-one. Losses were horrendous as tens of thousands of bugs swarmed forward, devouring civilians and soldiers alike. The pressure was intense - small groups of soldiers often ended up unable to see past a pile of dead drone bodies. One false move or unwatched flank could spell disaster for a company of soldiers in what often seemed more a battle of survival than a defense. And yet, amazingly, the Asteron forces held on. Using a combination of urban warfare tactics, strategic artillery strikes and complete disregard for civilian lives they managed to blunt the Hive's advance, bogging them down in intense firefights along a hundred or so miles of urban terrain. The 168th Penal Regiment performed admirably throughout, stopping a near-breakthrough by a swarm of strange, heavily armored bugs and then leading a charge to relieve several other regiments in danger of being enveloped.
The Thin Grey Line of Asteron's troops was holding, for now, but losses were heavy and the enemy showed no signs of exhaustion yet. Gustavus Kruger, general of the Asteron army, could only praise every god in existence that the bugs had devoted their artillery toward bombarding the sector center rather than firing on his own troops. The destruction and panic there was great, and the bombardment had killed many of the guards he had posted around the reactor, but news had reached him that the reactor itself was more-or-less intact. It was a race to completion now, and time was not on his side.

It-That-Eternally-Hungers looked on the battlefield. It felt too slow, and the harvest too little. He felt the enemy solider drones fight with an acceptable level of fervor. It was admirable, if annoying. In time they would sustain their own forces, along with the workers they defended. He had seen enough. Time to test the enemies mettle. ========================= -Artillery is told to direct fire to now fire upon areas of resistance, particularly enemy bottlenecks. They've not selected them while under fire, so many should of been set up without the factors of artillery and air force, testing those positions. (They have put themselves in these wonderful little bottlenecks, Lets throw some firecrackers in their end of the bottle and see what happens.) -After the initial attack, they will seek to destroy enemy air force staging grounds. (They have to land somewhere. Lets make that somewhere on fire. Preferably with them in it.) -Air switches to scouting, and engages enemy scouts. Should they get a tail, they Fly low, and draw enemy through coordinated strike zones by allied Armored squads. Should they start to ignore them, lone craft will make strike runs at key targets. -Rak'Tak/Rak'Tik are both to blitz forward, using their armored division to create a new path, units are sent outwards periodically to keep pressure off the aggression bulk. Infantry are to capitalize on enemy troupes trying to take cover from the barrage of Armored units. Armored are to take advantage those hunkering down against Infantry. The enemy should be in disarray having their forces divided, units would be cut off from needed supplies. The infantray will also begin to try push on the sides, and flank, they have the reserves to do so. (Attempting to divide and conquer/flank) -Industrial sectors must have a great deal of large facilities, The swarm has no issue opening up holes in walls to provide safe/guarded passage through. They also move the Artillery bugs in this way, hiding them when air force attempts to strike, and moving them as they alternate vollys. So by the time retaliation arrives, they seem to disappear, and another volley occurs from elsewhere. -Similarly,ALL Paths will be decided based upon how hard they would be to strike using Artillery/Air force, preferring to travel through the inside of structures. -Shields seem to work well, any bug that finds one as they move is free to use them as protection. Their hesitation didn't last as long as predicted, however there seems to be some odd coloration with the smaller ones, and the females, as they still sometimes cause pause when confronted with such a shield. Likewise there seem to be pause when capture-groups capable of vocalization are kept together and are allowed to speak in the enemies presence. These should both be capitalized upon, as it provides a useful, if occasional distraction. (Women and children first )

Command Bunker; Undisclosed Location:
'' 48th Regiment requests to fall back! ''
'' The 68th is about to be overrun! ''
'' Have the 68th fall back to secondary fighting positions, bring up two armored companies from the 36th Armored to stabilize the 48th. I want the line held. ''
Like a grand chess master, Gustavus Kruger stood amidst the chaos of his command bunker attempting to link all the pieces together of the battle within his minds eye. Dozens of vox operators were communicating his orders and receiving the latest data from the battlefield. A massive holographic map of Torgau City and its defenders was constantly being readjusted but Gustavus Kruger could not deny the reality that he was losing. There were simply too many bugs.
'' Get me on the line with Air Command. ''
-------------------------------------------------------------- Western District:
Colonel Harik watched the surge of enemy bugs. There seemed no end to them. The 48th Infantry Regiment had been bloodied and only the swift arrival of two under strength companies of battle mech's had saved the situation. The constant roar of machine and cannon fire created a cacophony of noise. Harik was crouched within a bombed out hab, assault rifle gripped by white knuckled fingers. Even the Colonel had to join the firing line within the last few hours, the situation had grown so poorly.
'' There's more, by the blood of fucking Leneru, here they come again! '' Snarled one of his sergeant's, pointed a bloodied finger in the direction of the horde. The latest wave had been thrown back but it had taken them no time at all to recover.
'' Give me the vox. '' Harik said, his voice hoarse from screaming orders.
'' C> This is Drumroll. I am calling for immediate close air support on my pos.... ''
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Major Kluwe was on his third sortie of the day. Having won of the air over the landing sites, there seemed to be little sight of enemy aircraft. The vox however was alive, on the ground, things were getting increasingly desperate. The bug were swarming through the cities streets, like a living river. Those tanks were slow...packed so tightly together. It was an inviting target.
C> '' I repeat requesting close air support on my position. '' The infantry commander on the ground rattled off a series of coordinates. Grumbling, Kluwe engaged his optics to magnify the area of bombardment. They were called precision bombs for a reason, the boys on the ground didn't need to be blown up by their own air force as well as the bloody bugs. Laser targeted bombs screamed downward, pounding Hive positions as Kluwe dropped his payload. He was joined by over a dozen aircraft, reducing the general area to fire and smoke.
Kluwe thumbed his 30mm cannon, dropping his aircraft low for a strafing run.
'' C> You crazy bastard, pull up! '' Someone screamed in the vox, Kluwe ignored them. An insane smile creeping over his face as he depressed the firing stud to sending over a hundred high explosive rounds into the enemy formation. Small arms fire pinged off the aircraft but the J-22 was built for it, she was a tough bitch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'' Hey Sergeant, look alive. '' Sergeant Whoreson's corpse was still warm. Most of his head had been bitten off before Sakai had killed the bug with a well placed shotgun blast. Now Tumelo had assumed control of the squad as its undisputed leader, the 'coup' had been greeting by members of Fourth Squad with a muted cheer. Sergeant Whoreson as he had been called, had never been well liked.
'' C'mon Sarge! '' Sakai said with a snigger.
'' Eh Sakai, is that bastards collar still on? '' Tumelo said from across the room, as he carefully filled his magazine with more rounds.
'' Yeah, the bug left it on 'em. '' By some fluke, it hadn't exploded.
'' Good. Sergeant Whoreson is gonna perform his duty to the end and I mean the very end. Giving his life and body to the Revolution. '' Tumelo said, as if he was a political officer that had just graduated from the Academy.
'' Give me some of your grenades. Whoreson here is gonna cover our retreat. '' The bugs seemed to have a hunger for bodies, whether they were alive or dead. The hab that the squad currently occupied was full of them, both military, civilians, and bugs. The swarm was already fast approaching and Tumelo guessed that a few of those peckers would be attracted by the smell. Sergeant Whoreson was left propped up in the doorway, enough explosive power on his beheaded corpse to destroy the rest of the hab.
The squad withdrew, and like hounds drawn to the scent of blood...a massive explosion followed no more than five minutes later. Sakai turned to watch the remnants of the building begin to collapse and fill the street with rubble, burying a good chunk of the hungry swarm that had been following them.
Bloody hell, he needed some smokes.
SUMMARY:
-- Taking advantage of the fact that the Hive seems to have abandoned attempts to win air superiority. Asteran ground units begin calling for CLOSE AIR SUPPORT (CAS) from the air (which the Asteran air force has nearly complete control of).
-- Air units will target enemy artillery, armored and infantry forces, which are swarming forward. Coordinates will be provided by units on the ground to maximize damage.
-- Using this new found airpower, the army will begin a phased GRADUAL withdrawal back to secondary fighting positions in order to buy as much time as possible. The overstretched Asteran line will be gradually reduced in size, trading space and territory to draw the blitzing bugs towards newly prepared fighting positions and entrenched forces. The hope is that the bug advance will run out of steam due to constant air attacks and Asteran forces will be in a position to counter push.
-- Artillery elements have been shifted to provide air defense for the reactor against probing bug fighters.
-- The 168th is continued to be used as a fire brigade, plugging dangerous sections of the line that are in risk of being overrun.
-- Hit and run guerrilla tactics continue. Units will bring down hab blocks on enemy advances to create obstacles to cover their retreat to secondary fighting positions if needed.

"Hold them off! Hold them!" The Asterons fought with desperate ferocity, suppressing enemies with strategic artillery and devastating airstrikes. Hundreds of bugs died, funneling into narrow bottlenecks. But now the Hive's attention had turned towards the small number of defenders. Perhaps, had they been less intent on holding back the swarm of infantry bugs before them they might have noticed the rumblings. But they did not, and their first warning was the collapse of a small apartment building as enormous, heavily armored bugs smashed through and opened fire with devastating acid attacks. Smaller infantry bugs swarmed into the breach, slaughtering men and scattering any survivors.
The the Asteron line shredded like tissue paper before a bullet. Hive armor smashed multiple breaches in the line, which infantry than swarmed through, hitting the defenders in the flanks and rear. General Kruger's careful retreat collapsed into a headlong rout as men abandoned their post or deserted in terror at the monstrous bug-things that would devour a man whole. Those who stayed were isolated into small pockets of resistance battling for survival, surrounded, isolated, and under constant artillery barrage.
Only the indiscriminate use of artillery, airpower, and explosives stopped the Hive's forces from completely overrun the 2nd Union Army. The constant bombardment and pockets of resistance managed to blunt the surge and prevent the bugs from reaching the staging grounds, where the artillery and airfields were stationed. The situation would not last long, but the bugs were taking casualties and now the Asterons had a chance to react.
At the Skoda Works fusion plant, preparations were complete. The mechanical and software safety features had been removed, and under the careful guidance of the techs the reactor was slowly building up heat in such a manner that it would go critical shortly. It was difficult, dangerous work, requiring a balancing of factors to make sure that when it reached criticality the explosion would be just right. It also had to be done manually - several techs had to remain behind to tend the reactor to the last minute, a suicide job if there ever was one.

It-That-Eternally-Hungers observed its reading's but didn't comprehend.
What was so important that they would remain even now?
Surly the energy facility wasn't so critical to their defenses they would remain even now.
They enemy hives setup was horribly inefficient in its layout, but such a grevious error as to make a critical facility to defense not lay in a well defended sector was not something the general-drone would conclude based upon their limited interactions thus far.
Then it began to power up, And it continued to do so.
He redirected a large portion of his forces.
It was clever, and he could appreciate it.
A move the Unity would respect and understood.
But respect would not feed no one.
This drone needed to be made to understand the hives hunger. They wished for a scenario where they could claim a phyretic victory.
Such thoughts of hope must be crushed, and the population made more docile.
He would take the facility. and he would do everything in his power to see to it that either it shut down, or the explosion would go off completely unconstrained in its furry, the desolation crippling the remnants left over.
Those who seek the stop the swarm from sating itself deserve no less.
The hive would have its meal, or no one on that field of battle ever would again.
=== Maintain the previous line of commands with 3 objectives;
-Mop up opposing forces, using Rak'Yot and Rak'Tik softening them with Armored, and rushing with Infantry, and heavy infantry.
-Destroy enemy airfields/Artillery positions if at all possible or barring that, destroying their ability to communicate, and simply pick off the confused remnants. Artillery Strikes will be used for this primarily.
-Get to the reactor, and kill the people controlling the reaction, then withdraw most the majority of troupes away from it, leaving only a few behind to try and disable it assuming they can comprehend the systems, (or baring that destroying systems at random). The goal is to either have it stop, or have it become a completely run away terrestrial based fission reaction.

Perimeter of the Skoda Plant:
'' Captain Xhosa! '' Xhosa was busy overseeing his troops desperately dig in for their final stand around the Skoda Power Plant. The remnants of the 168th Infantry Regiment clung to their final position with ruthless tenacity.
Xhosa spat a load of bloody phlegm and turned to face whoever the hell was calling his name. He found himself facing an officer with the rank pins of a Major and the crest of the Gendarme. What the hell was the military police doing here at a time like this? Xhosa would've figured that every last one of the buggers would be at the airport, trying to get on a damned transport out of here.
'' I'm a little busy here Major. '' Xhosa growled in reply, a shell landing over his head. The Major hunkered down but Xhosa didn't even flinch.
'' Where is Colonel Dal? ''
'' Got himself sliced in half last time I saw 'em, Major Ryan lost himself an arm and has been evaced. I'm whats left of the chain of command. ''
'' I am Major Sidor. I've been ordered by High Command to retrieve General Kruger. I need a platoon for an escort. ''
'' And I need a fucking magic unicorn to get me out of here. '' Xhosa said with a laugh that had no mirth.
'' Captain. I need men. '' Sidor said, stepping forward. His hand dropping down to his sidearm.
'' I can spare a squad, sir. '' He said adding the title with a sneer.
'' SERGEANT TUMELO! It's your lucky day! Not only do you get a field promotion, you get to save a General! They'll probably give you a big medal and a parade in the square. Take your boys with Major Sidor over here. ''
Tumelo had never expected to survive. Both he and Sakai sat in stunned silence before Xhosa started screaming at them to move their asses or he'd blow them to hell. It was the last they'd see of the Captain, as he threw himself back into his foxhole.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- '' Fuck. '' Rufus said as he drew the short straw. Would his luck never end? A cackle left his lips and tears streamed down his face. It was not easy to face one's own death, to look at it in the eye. There would be nothing left of Rufus Tanner or for that matter, anyone whom stayed within the reactor. They would be utterly incinerated, skin bone, all reduced to ash.
'' It looks like we'll be staying down here together. '' Borizar said with a grin, holding up his short straw. A handful of other technicians had volunteered, the rest of the team evacuating outside to the last few remaining helicopters that could take them out of here.
'' Seal the door. '' Borizar barked, the door shutting behind them. It would do nothing to stop the radioactive explosion but it might buy them precious time with the bugs scampering on the edges of the reactor.
'' Let's finish this... '' Rufus said, his body and voice numb from the shock as they descended into the reactor chamber once more to nurse the '' weapon '' to a critical state.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perimeter of the Skoda Plant: Captain Tadic swung his mech haphazardly towards the makeshift defenses of the reactor. One of the Battle Walker's legs was in a critical state and the mech was struggling to maneuver effectively. The '' Iron Lady '' had her armored scarred, her breastplate a mish mash of acidic wounds that had gouged holes into ceramite.
'' We have twenty percent left on the chain gun. Give or take a minute's worth of ammo if I don't get too trigger happy. '' Sergeant Sakaro said, a smile as the two men maneuvered along with the rest of their company to join the 168th Penal Legion. The Eighth Company had reduced to seven machines and Tadic was determined to make every tank count.
The auspex was screaming as the swarm barreled down towards them. Tadic armed his last remaining missiles, letting them off in a volley. The railgun booming as it sent shots hammering into the enemy ranks that were quickly closed. He only had to buy precious minutes...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Command Bunker: '' General. The Chairman himself has ordered that you evacuate. '' Major Sidor said. Kruger had been ignoring him and the squad for the last half hour as he watched the last of his defenses disintegrate under the Hive advance. Now the final stages of his plan were coming to fruition... Yet duty kept him glued to the spot. Even as the sound of gunfire and artillery drew even closer to his command bunker.
It was time.
'' Gentleman. '' He said to the group of men in the bunker, each pausing in what they were doing to stand at attention. '' It has been an honor to serve with you. '' Kruger said, giving a crisp salute to his soldiers, which was returned.
Kruger barked out a series of names, each a technician. '' I will coordinate the rest of the battle from the air. Destroy anything of intelligence value in the bunker with incendiary grenades and get to the last evacuation transports. '' Gustavus said, turning on his heel to at last making his exit to a waiting chopper, guarded by some of the last of the penal legion. The devastated city gradually drifted further and further away, the General on the vox as soon as he was in the chopper to continue coordinating his forces.
SUMMARY: -- The 168th Penal Legion, alongside ALL remaining artillery, and armored assets makes a final stand around the Skoda Plant.
-- A group of technicians remains inside to the plants detonation.
-- General Kruger, along with elements of his staff, evacuate from the city via air.
-- All remaining air assets will drop their payloads on the bugs surrounding the plant. Once they have exhausted all ammunition or are running short on fuel, they will fly to the nearest military sector in order to save both pilot and aircraft.

Those who could fled Torgau by any means possible, whether aircraft, vehicle, or on foot. Behind them was a city in chaos. Bug armies surged forward, overruning position after position and slaughtering millions of civilians unfortunate enough to be trapped. Fire and smoke clogged the air, and the devastation could be seen from space. Grown men could only weep at the devastation that was being wrought, and which they had no means to stop. Although General Kruger and most of the airforce had escaped, the 2nd Union Army had been thoroughly gutted.
As a final, parting gift to the Hive invaders, the scientists sent the Skoda Works reactor critical. As bugs hammered at the door the plant went critical, bursting out of the concrete containment dome with the power of a small sun. Sadly the plant was not designed to be used as a nuclear bomb, nor did it have sufficient reaction mass for a truly impressive explosion. The modest blast was on par with that of a tactical nuclear warhead and vaporized several forward regiments of Hive soldiers, but the bug armies would remain a threat to the rest of the planet.
It-That-Eternally-Hungers learned much from the battle. The humans were tenacious and skilled at using their weapons to their advantage. But it had also noted the effects of heavy bugs and their ability to smash through buildings and flank enemies. In the aftermath of the battle, a group of the largest, toughest bugs was organized into the Brickbreaker Regiment designed to smash through fortified defenses. More importantly, it had learned about the power of terror and fear. Many of the foolish human-things had fled when they could have fought. They foolishly feared death. It-That-Eternally-Hungers would remember.
