Nation Name:
The Holy Republic of Voyag
Government:
Theocracy
Description:
Voyag is ruled by the priesthood of Nas, who had been in power for over a thousand years. The priesthood controls both the science and religion of their nation, ruling from the golden observatory that overlooks both land and space. Their figurehead is known as the first watcher who has the symbolic duty of gazing into the stars with blinded eyes. The actual rulers of voyag are the circle of Nas who are a group of 13 representatives from each sector of the planet.
Species:
Human
Description:
This branch of humanity is descended from one of the first groups of colonists to set out into space, however these pioneers were mere eggs kept frozen in liquid nitrogen and their mayflower was the size of a soda can. Thawed and grown in artificial wombs, they were genetically meant to be some of the best and brightest humanity could offer. Physically they are nearly identical to their earth born cousins but had been warped a bit by the lower gravity of their Homeworld. Frailer than their cousins and slightly (very slightly) taller, though some communities have a predisposition to inbreeding resulting in mild mutations being passed along the main populace.
Homeworld: Sagan
Description:
A mild planet with two suns and no visible seasons, the planet sagan has native life though in the form of giant colonies of micro organisms that grow on the surface of its oceans. Since the arrival of humans, the planet had become overrun with invasive plants and animals from earth brought over to start agriculture on Sagan. Due to it's similarities to earth, the planet was an ideal target for colonization. Most of the planet is dominated by ridges that were leftover from its rich volcanic history. The rich presence of sulfur and iron in the soil has become both a blessing and a curse to the inhabitants, combined with heavy rainfall, farms are easy to start but the sulfur in some places has such a high concentration that it leads to pools of sulfuric acid around the equator. Of course not all of it is the same, some areas are uninhabitable wastelands of glass and acid while tundra can be found up north with ice that never melts.

History:
The result of one of humanity's efforts to get into space, the people of Sagan started out as isolated children unable to be reached by their cousins on earth. As a result of isolation, their history had become forgotten and they were unaware of the existence of other humans. Early on, they had branched out from each other, becoming different societies and cultures. Existing fragmented, at war with one another as separate tribes and peoples until it all changed with a miracle from the sky. The event had long since been mythologized in their holy texts but what happened was that a single probe had crash landed on the surface. Burned and beaten, the probe carried a message on a golden disc that was discovered by a lone shepherd. The shepherd would later become known as the Prophet Arstor the great who had united the tribes under the banner of Voyag (after what had remained written on the probe). Conquest had spread the influence of voyag which had now been worshiped as a god. Eventually centuries later, the message on the golden disc was finally heard and it was interpreted as a tale of a promised land on earth and thus a new religion was born. The church had become powerful with the languages on the disc becoming the holy tongue and the church started to plan a holy pilgrimage to the promised star.
Culture:
The majority of Saganites are a simple bunch who live around and tend to massive factory farms. Hard work is valued in the factory farms, with only voyag and family coming second to them as they believe that a lifetime of hard work and virtue will lead them to an eternity among the stars. Families are often large with whole extended families often sharing a manor. The marriage of cousins is common tradition left over from the time when most clans were severely isolated though steps had been taken to encourage marriage between families of different sectors. Most Saganites tend to be outwardly friendly and hospitable but tend to be reserved and closed off to strangers often resulting in them engaging in shallow conversations that are unnerving or even creepy those not used to it. Not all is pleasant though, when crossed the people of Sagan are infamous for holding grudges that can last generations which has lead to blood feuds. The other cultures on Sagan are the herders who roam the mountains and the buzzards, who are a group of hunters and scavengers that used to prey on the other two cultures. The herders are a tough bunch who are far more wary of strangers, rarely rooted in one spot, they travel around occasionally stopping in empty towns for months on end before moving on with their herds. The buzzards are a more aggressive group who used to raid and pillage both groups but have since mellowed out and now offer their services as mercenaries though there are still bands who stick to tradition and continue to terrorize those who pass into their territory.
