The survivors cannibalized the ship to build the first of the cavern cities, Pervoye Ubezhishche. After 200 years space travel was once again within the colonists' grasp and two major factions rose amongst them. The captain of the Strannik and his officers who wished to reestablish a link to the home worlds and a young man and his followers who believed that the colonists should take the opertunity to break free of the tyranny of the home worlds and their corrupt government calling them selves the Viscarri movement. A civil war raged across the ice fields of Doma Prime for 38 years and in time the young man's faction was victorious. The young man's name was Maxim Goallix and after his victory he was named king of the Viscarri. Shortly afterward king Maxim ordered a fleet be built so the Viscarri could explore the local systems for other inhabitable worlds. It was not until the reign of his great-great grandson king Jasper I that a suitable world was found and colonized and the monarchy became an empire. Though they have lost contact with all of the colony worlds the Viscarri view them no less theirs and have every intention of spreading across the stars once more.
Culture: The Viscarri have a very rigid social ladder. The Aristocracy has almost complete control of the government and the majority of the armed forces. (Aspiring officers are trained at the Imperial Military Academy. Where students from non-aristo families will be offer scholarship if they are exceptional.) Almost all of Viscarri society is at some level or another tied to the army. No technical or scientific research is not handled by military scholars. The lower classes are not without recourse however. Every major profession in the empire has a guild. These institutions offer there members the clout to deal with imperial officials on matters of quotas and wages. The Legions are also willing to accept candidates from all walks of life but only the most hardy are able to make the grade.
