The Reteran fleet arrived in the Antoviyan system escorting a great number of military transports. They bore down on the RWU's capital planet with vengeful eyes, aiming to punish the meddling Syndicalists who thought they could antagonize them with impunity. The Reteran fleet had the advantage in tonnage and firepower, but the RWU's orbital defenses would tip the scales if fighting took place near one of the RWU's planets. It was the Reteran's move; they would have to decide how to approach and make landfall if their expedition was to succeed.
TURN ORDER Reteran Empire RWU Modmark
FORCES
RETERAN 1 Admiral Agent (Admiral Vargerax) 1 Malthus Heavy Cruiser (The Kurrgan) 1 Retaren Marauder MK II (the Nyloth) 8 Refitted Anotviyan Attack Frigates (The Falconer, The Koloth, The Larn, The Favis, The Kurn, The Kelsar, The Domat, and The Farud Har) 4 Army Transports
RWU 1 Admiral Agent (Councilor-Admiral Alagh Walayad) 1 New Model Reaper (Cruiser) 5 New Model Hunters (Destroyer) 2 Orbital Defenses Multiple land armies
NOTES 2 inhabited planets in system: New Sovereignty and New Dawn. Both planets have Orbital Defense Grids that will be a factor if a battle takes place near one of the planets. New Dawn and New Sovereignty are on separate orbits. Right now the Reteran fleet can attack either planet without one supporting the other, but in roughly 1 month's time they will be close enough for a single fleet to cover both easily. There is 1 System Sector in deep space. The RWU will have to intercept the Reteran fleet outside the range of Orbital Defenses if they want to protect it.

"Give me a fleet and I will make them pay for their transgressions!" Vargerax pounded his fist on the table and stood as he spoke. Most of his counterparts were a bit surprised by his outburst, and even the Emperor twitched and went for his sidearm, the Ripper. Only Jareena Favis, the high queen of the Retaren Empire, did not budge.
Druden Larn smirked, perhaps a bit impressed by the youngest member at this meeting. "Your contemporaries would disagree with you," the emperor said. "Some of them think we should negotiate with them, offer them the forum to make amends, and sign a treaty."
Jareena rolled her eyes as other members of the meeting nodded along with the emperors words. Brave Retarens all, but they had their reasons for not wanting to pick a fight just yet. The empire was still growing, had suffered a defeat before, and the enemy was on the other side of the galaxy.
"We must prove to our allies and our enemies that we will not tolerate interference." Vargerax's words were passionate. He was loyal to the empire and Druden Larn himself, but also believed the empire had to show strength. "They are not expecting it, and are caught up in two other wars. Give me a fleet, and I will make them fear the might of the Retaren Empire for centuries to come."
Many of the members of the meeting started to speak, some loudly. They were against a war they weren't absolutely sure they could win, and even though they all knew of Vargerax's talent in combat and tactical abilities, it wasn't a sure bet. Finally the emperor pounded his fist on the table and silenced the crowd. He then stood up and looked into Vargerax's eyes.
"I see it," the emperor said. "I see the fire, the determination, and the will. I also see confidence, and preparedness. You've thought this through."
"It can be done," Vargerax said. "I know it."
Druden Larn extended his hand. "Very well."

Some time later Admiral Vargerax slowly paced in his ready room while it traveled through the wormwhole on the way to RWU space. "It's okay to be a little nervous," said a voice from the intercom. "I've seen combat since you were first learning to hail the emperor, it's natural."
"Do you think the Emperor should have picked someone else, Grakus?"
"No," General Grakus replied, "you are exactly the right person for the job. But use what's inside you now, let it guide you, and do what you think is right. Also, get on the bridge, we're almost there and your men will need you."
Minutes later the fleet passed through the wormwhole into RWU space. Vargerax listened intently as his officers scanned the system and reported back. The enemy fleet knew they were there.
"Well," Vargerax said to himself, "this is happening. Come on, boys, let's show them why it's a bad idea to wake a sleeping Retaren."
---
- The fleet makes it's way to New Sovereignty in full force. - The fleet bares down on the Orbital Defense Grid protecting New Sovereignty. - Stealthed, the Nyloth uses the distraction to attempt to board the primary hub of the station, it's marines taking control of it from the inside. - The army transports use the other ships as cover.

Councilor-Admiral Alagh Walayad observed a holographic display of the star system, around which also sat the officers of the Revolutionary Workers' Navy Command Takudar. The assembled Ayar, humans, Kwazans, and Wuxianese wore grave expressions as they tracked the enemy fleet bearing directly on New Sovereignty.
"Have the distress signals been sent?" asked the Admiral, eyeing a Kwazan officer dressed in dark blue (like everyone else).
"Aye, messages en route to our allies. Will we be awaiting reinforcements?"
"I vote no, we have the opportunity and the duty to do damage and slow the enemy now," replied another officer, a tall human with dark glasses.
"I agree," the Admiral affirmed. "With our homeland under threat, we have no time to lose. We must advance the entire fleet to flank the enemy during their attack, presenting a second angle of fire that will stretch their formation and possibly expose their troop-ships. I propose we vote on this matter immediately." It was unlike Walayad to hurry decisions or cut discussion short, but the situation was urgent. The vote was brief and decisive, unanimously in favor of immediate intervention. The Revolutionary Workers' Navy would protect the homeland at all costs.
____
All section crews to their stations! All batteries prepare to fire! Repeat! All section crews to their stations!...
The loudspeakers blared the orders repeatedly as the orbital defense operators scurried to their posts. Their training was finally coming to use, and within less than a minute the first targeting sequences were being set. Everyone was on edge, but they knew what to do. Survival was far from guaranteed, but the enemy would pay for every inch they tried to advance one in range.
__________
-- The entire RWU fleet moves to attack the enemy formation at the same time as it begins its battle with the orbital defenses, thereby "flanking" their fleet. -- Orbital defenses prepare to receive the enemy. -- Distress calls sent to Empire of Wuxian, Rusevian Empire, Union of Asteron, and Pilgrims of Nas.
