Battle of Netiva City In fiery red chariots they descended, breaking into the atmosphere like shooting stars as they hurtled towards the earth. Of course the natives weren't gullible enough to believe that these were gods coming to deliver them. They were humans, made of flesh, blood, and bone. They were here not to deliver Shazere's people but harness its resources for themselves. The first bloom of heavy artillery lit up the night sky as guided missiles caught the dropships as they descended. Aircraft followed behind, hurtling forward with antiquated missiles and guns. For the most part, the Viscarri were able to shrug off the brutal bombardment. Shields flickered and armor groaned as it absorbed the shock of the explosions while soldiers gritted their teeth as they were tossed and turned like ragdolls. But the unwanted Viscarri incursion would not end without casualties. The Third Legion was the first to feel the bite, several of its dropships hurtling out of the sky, plummeting to the earth, and exploding in massive fireballs below. Thousands of men were killed in those fleeting minutes, taking a good portion of the First Company's command staff and officer corp with it. The weapon that had struck the dropship seemed different from what the rest of the Netivan army had demonstrated thus far. But for the moment, whether by luck, good fortune, or limited ammunition, the rest of the Legion was able to land in good order and began preparations to advance beyond. Netiva City:The Viscarri intention was to strike at the enemy heartland and bring the war to a swift conclusion. But Netiva City was one of the most heavily defended locations on the planet. Engineers and Generals had been planning for a siege for decades as the war dragged on and on. While they had never expected a Viscarri incursion, they had prepared for the Cambrian's to attack. Netiva City virtually sat upon an island. It was surrounded by water and was connected to the mainland via a bridge (which was in turn defended by a ring of forts) The swiftest way into the city would be to seize the critically important Fosen Bridge. It would allow the Viscarri to bring in supplies, troops, and heavy vehicles (while not having to build an artificial bridge while under heavy fire). Alternatively, the Viscarri attempt to air lift troops across but risked coming into contact with the heavy aircraft batteries and becoming bogged down by enemy troops. The Viscarri commanders face a choice in attacking the royal capital: -- Fosen Bridge: seizing the bridge will allow the swift deployment of Viscarri ground assets into Netiva City but the bridge is defended by heavily entrenched troops. -- Airlift troops across: A massive airlift can put troops on the other side of the river but there is a danger that they will come into heavy contact with AA fire that successfully downed numerous Viscarri dropships. -- Settle in for a siege: Cut off Netiva City from the outside and pound them to dust with our superior cannons! -- Orbital Bombardment: In one fell swoop, we can decisively end this war with an orbital strike! Millions will die, some of our own troops, but it is for the greater good! Meanwhile, the Netivan Army had begun to hunker down for a siege. Thousands of troops were being mobilized and pulled away from the war in the West. With every day that passed, the Netivan's would grow stronger in number. Legate Polgavich didn't have the patience for a protracted siege. The push at Fosen Bridge would begin after the combined artillery of legions had completed an all night artillery barage in the first glimmers of dawn. The Armor of both legions would spearhead the attack supported by the Infantry of the 1st Legion while the artillery would be called in as needed. The air power of both legions would preform sorties to harass any Netivan forces attempting to reinforce the troops at bridge. Meanwhile a portion of the the 3rd Legion's infantry would attempt to cross the river in watercraft shortly after the beginning of the assault. Their order were to act as a commando raiding force. Striking at enemy installations within the city while the they enemy is focused on the bridge. High priority targets would include the advanced anti-air batteries and enemy command elements.

Netivan Army HQ
"Defensive positions on Fosen Bridge reporting massive destruction, my liege!" exclaimed a disturbed-looking communications officer as news came pouring into his headset. Of course, he was far removed from the actual action. The Netivan Army Headquarters was deep beneath the city in a bunker built to withstand nuclear bombardment.
"Order a general retreat from the bridge," the King replied without hesitation. The other officers in the room, however, did not seem to share his confidence.
"Your Majesty," one general posited, "we spent days fortifying that bridge. It can withstand any assault, I guarantee you."
"Then leave a skeleton force to man the defenses, it'll be better to pin them down anyways," the officer's Liege-Lord proposed nonchalantly.
"What exactly are you..."
"Enough, General. Wait and see." He turned to face the communications officer. "You there, relay these orders to all armies..."
_
Fosen Bridge
Soldiers scrambled to gather their supplies and fall back to the city amidst the roar of an artillery bombardment many could only describe as demonic. What were these aliens?! Humans and vehicles alike evaporated as they struggled to make their way to safety, and soon the bridge was filled with the smell of gasoline and burning flesh. The most unfortunate souls, however, were those ordered to stay put. They would sit in their bunkers behind machine-guns and light artillery, watching the enemy columns get closer and closer until they entered range.
Desperate to keep up their own morale, like dogs howling at waves the troops cheered as the first mines and tripwires set off against the Viscarri advance, no matter how little impact they made. It wasn't like they had many other options: They had been ordered to hold their ground at all costs, and any retreat would get them shot to pieces by their own comrades behind.
Once the fighting began in earnest, the bridge defenders would learn the real purpose of their orders. They weren't staying to cover their friends' retreat; they were staying to pin the invaders down in a chokepoint. Like a thunderstorm hundreds of thousands of cannons, rockets, and missiles let loose from the city, tanks near the water's edge and artillery further behind. This was closely followed by the distinct rapport of a different, far more terrifying kind of weapon. At this point retreat would have meant almost nothing: The bridge would probably collapse in less than a minute, bringing the defenders and the first wave of Viscarri down with it.
Meanwhile, the Netivan air force sallied forth en masse against the now-exposed enemy planes. It was a gamble going for a direct air attack against such advanced alien craft, but this was the best chance they would get to wrest control of the skies away from the invaders.
__________
SUMMARY: -- Bulk of forces defending the bridge fall back to the city. I infantry from the First Netivan Royal Army stays to man the static defenses, under threat of mass execution if they defy these orders.
-- Once enough enemies are on the bridge and engaged with the defense force, all available armor and artillery open fire on the bridge to exploit the chokepoint and destroy the bridge.
-- All air forces engage enemy air while it is trying to provide close support.

Once More into the Breach! Fosen Bridge: (Day 1-8) The fighting the Viscarri Legions experienced was brutal. The initial thrust by the First and Third Legion’s armor was met with heavy but ultimately futile resistance by the Netivan Royal Guard. Outnumbered and outgunned, the Viscarri managed to bludgeon their way through the static defenses that the Netivan’s had erected. Within twelve hours the Viscarri had managed to capture the Southern half of the bridge but as they attempted to move en masse across the bridge to follow up on their victory, the truth of the Netivan strategy became clear.
Powerful cannon blasts (eerily similar to the artillery that had taken down Viscarri dropships) were now turned on the bridge head. With a mighty crash, the Fosen Bridge (already damaged by Viscarri artillery fire) split and slammed into the water (along with a good portion of Viscarri armor and troops that had been on it). The casualties no doubt would’ve been worse except for the fact that the Viscarri were technologically advanced warriors. Their equipment saved lives but would it save the battle?
Netiva City: While the Viscarri had been thwarted in their attempt to seize the bridge, the foray across the water by assault boats was meeting with greater success. Viscarri infantry (supported by artillery and gunships) had managed to establish three bridgeheads on the southeastern flank of the city and were advancing towards the all important Kings Mount. It was here that the bulk of the advanced Netivan artillery was concentrated. Attempts to call in airstrikes on this location had met with heavy losses. Whatever the Netivan’s had captured from the Cambrian’s, it was allowing them to not only use the cannons as an anti-air weapon but also to shell troops on the ground.
The Viscarri advance was now tentative, its supply lines were stretched, and while it had annihilated the Netivan Air Force in the skies, the anti-aircraft batteries meant that it was struggling to keep its troops resupplied via air drops. Orbital bombardment remained an option, albeit a risky one or a redeployment of the First Legion to allow another orbital drop onto the city itself. As the troops moved towards the heart of the city, urban combat was no doubt going to slow the advance even further…
SUMMARY: -- The Netivan Army has successfully destroyed the Fosen Bridge and thwarted enemy attempts to capture it. The Viscarri (via assault boats) have managed to establish a bridgehead inside the city, albeit it is a very tenuous one. Troops from the Third Legion are closing in on the Netivan Artillery located on the Kings Mount but are becoming slowed due to lack of steady supplies and the urban environment. Artificial bridges can be constructed to bring across heavier equipment but will come under artillery assault as long as the guns on the King's Mount remain.
-- The Viscarri have won air superiority but lack total control of the sky due to entrenched enemy AA positions.

The shelling of Kings Mount would begin in earnest after the destruction of Fosen bridge. The Viscarri Legions had been given enough opportunities to calculate probable positions based on observation of incoming shell fall and now with the forward strike force close enough to give accurate coordinates they were confident they could silence the big guns in short order. The shelling would consist of both Airbusrt and HE munitions. The primary target was the heavy cannon that had caused such setbacks for the Imperial Strike force. this shelling was to be augmented by the Airpower of the 1st making precision bombing
Meanwhile the infantry of the 1st Legion would cross the river in assault boats while the armored elements of both legions would be air-lifted across the river to the beachhead secured by the 3rd. They were to then to push into the city using the trail cut by the advance forces and capitalize push for the enemy HQ.

Final Moderation Mark The thunderous roar of artillery never let up. It had been a week since the Viscarri had managed to cross the river and they had been stymied in their advance since. The Netivan troops had systematically brought down buildings and entire blocks, making the advance slow, bloody, and tiresome. Yet now the heavy guns of the Legions had now been brought to the rivers edge. With ruthless firepower, the enemy guns on the King's Mount (that had caused so many casualties) were silenced. It would take another three days for the Viscarri to seize the hilltop itself and they would find little in the way of remnants. What the Viscarri air strikes and cannon bombardments hadn't done, the Netivan's had done themselves. It had been defended by the fanatical Netivan Royal Guard whom were the most technologically advanced. Their power armored exoskeletons were eerily similar to that of the Viscarri. Now with the King's Mount seized, the true crossing could begin. No longer under incessant artillery fire Legate Polgavih's true advance began. Thousands of infantry and tanks began to move across now that the bridging equipment could be put into place and was no longer under threat. By the third week, the Viscarri had fought their way to the Imperial Palace and hung the banner of the Empire over the city. The Royal Capital was in ruins and the ruthless campaign to seize it had left tens of thousands of Netivan's dead (both soldiers and civilians), hundreds of thousands more homeless, and left the capital critically short of food, fuel, and other necessities that would be needed to keep them alive. With winter approaching, many would perish unless the empire did something. King Gordimer for his part had disappeared, the Viscarri had found elaborate tunnels running from the palace to the opposite shoreline where it appeared he had escaped. He had issued a call for his loyal subjects to resist the savage alien invader! Campaign: The savage attack on the Royal Capital had caused many of the Netivan Armies to withdraw in disarray. Many of the Kingdom's vassal states rose up in rebellion and with pressure suddenly released on the Cambrian Front, the siege on the Cambrian capital was broken. But the damage was done. Their great scientific research centers had been looted and stolen by the Netivan's alongside their technology. With the capital fallen and the Viscarri advancing, the Netivan Armies withdrew back to their strongpoints where Viscarri air missions kept them bottled up. Soon offers of surrender were being given by Netivan Officers but many more chose to keep their weapons and continue the battle. An insurgency was brewing.... SUMMARY: -- Viscarri Victory -- Netiva has collapsed under the intense weight of the bloody Viscarri assault. Thousands of soldiers and army officers, inspired by a defiant King Gordimer have chosen to go to ground and wage guerrilla warfare. -- Planet is at -3 ORDER. -- The Viscarri Empire gains +3 Science for aiding Cambria -- The mysterious technology that the Netivan's were using eludes the Viscarri.
