Alrin took the offered seat, setting his hat onto the desk in front of him before regarding the man in front of him, he'd gone over the details of this negotiation over and over in his mind but he could not predict how the Asteronians would react.
"Captain, the Admiralty board has been pleased with the benefits that trade between us has provided but in the wake of the Hive invasion and Asteron's ideological conflicts with the RWU, the Admiralty is expressing concerns for the maintenance of trade, after all a war might break out and disrupt relations."
He paused.
"The Admiralty wishes to propose more cooperation between our two nations regarding military operations. We of Denova are good masters of ships and how to command them, our officers could provide great advantage to Asteronian naval operations and with a certain union of industry, frigates and destroyers to protect trade routes and worlds from outside powers for the security of both of our nations."

Captain Vorchek's interest was piqued to say the least. A mutual defense treaty to guard Asteron's vulnerable trade routes would something that President Sidow would certainly find appealing as he moved towards expanding the countries trade relations. Yet this was all purely theory. While Asteron's econonmy had taken massive strides since the end of the Hive Wars, it was still lagging sorely behind when it came to production.
'' While I would have to consult with Asteron, I would say that the government would be highly receptive to such a deal. Though, I would need to present specifics. Unfortunately, our industry level cannot support such a massive commitment of resources at the present moment. '' A long pause followed as he tried to see whether Alrin could read into what Vorchek was saying or not. '' But, we currently have plans to massively increase our industrial capacity. Progress at the moment however has been slow.... if Denova could make a sizable industrial commitment to support Asteron's factory base, then I could say we could have a mutual defense treaty drawn up. ''

Alrin could see where this train of thought was going, and the Admiralty board had already given it consideration.
"On the next galactic cycle we could spare 10 transports worth of industrial supplies, machinery, resources, tools and the like to aid in the construction efforts. The Admiralty is pursuing similar industrial advancement but we will have industry to spare."

'' The Asteran government will accept this agreement. Yet we will need to revisit further industrial contributions over the next few galactic cycles. Naturally, we will agree on terms of payment. Asteron does not expect the Denovan's to continue to be so generous. In addition, within the next two galactic cycles our admiralty will hold a joint meeting with your Fleet Command to discuss ships that can be put forth towards protecting trade routes. '' The Captain said with a smile that seemingly held no mirth. At last, the countries industry had a chance to climb out of the gutter. With its economy stagnant and dwarfed by its neighbors, plying much needed aid from Asteron's allies and trading partners was becoming extremely beneficial.
